New Features in Wave Editor 1.4
Even more of what you know and love
Smoother and faster performance, improved metering, new contextual menu items for more elegant workflows, support for the Digidesign 'regn' extension in WAVE and AIFF files, greatly improved manual activation process for computers that aren't online, even more export options, new AAC options, Export Presets, native support for Elektron TurboMIDI and more.
Native support for VST effect plug-ins
Start with the revolutionary concept of Layers, where you can mix and match audio of any format, channel count, sample rate and bit depth. Now, freely and non-destructively add both Audio Units and VST effect plug-ins on each layer, expanding your sonic palette beyond anything you've heard before. Flexible, elegant and exceedingly powerful.
Audio File First Aid
Have you ever discovered an audio file that doesn't load in your favorite DAW, or sampler? Or, perhaps after digging out your favorite recording from the archives you discover that something has gone wrong with the audio files themselves? Another industry first, Audio File First Aid will give you new insight into the structure of your files, giving you the power to diagnose and repair the most common causes of corrupt audio files. An industry first and built right in to Wave Editor 1.4.
Introducing DDP Import (DDP Loadback)
Wave Editor already gives you the most cost-effective and simplest solution for getting your final masters ready for CD mass-reproduction, with the ability to create your own DDP 2.0 compliant project files. Wave Editor 1.4 adds DDP Import, giving you even more power during the vital mastering and reproduction process. Freely load DDP images back into Wave Editor, with everything intact: track markers, indexes, ISRC and PQ codes, CD-TEXT and more. Make your necessary edits and changes, then export to DDP once again. The entire process is now in your hands.
Protect your work with DDP MD5 checksums
More than ever, it's vital to make sure that the files you send off are received correctly at the other end. With a single checkbox, Wave Editor 1.4 will generate a MD5 checksum of your master image. The MD5 checksum is like a digital fingerprint of your project, and gives you a way to confirm that your project files remain exactly the same during the entire reproduction process.
PQ and Cue Sheet export
The brand new PQ Sheet and Cue Sheet export functions give you everything you'll need to send your masters to a manufacturing plant. Let Wave Editor 1.4 generate a great looking PQ Sheet describing your final tracks, indexes, ISRC information and more. In addition, Cue Sheet Import lets you continue working on an existing project and rounds out the full-featured mastering capabilities in Wave Editor.
Keyboard shortcut presets
With Wave Editor 1.4 you can now save and load your entire set of Keyboard Shortcuts, and access them all via the new Presets menu. Just open Keyboard Shortcuts, select a new Preset and instantly switch gears for different workflows or different engineers. Flexibility and freedom is just one Preset away.
User-customizable split-file naming support
Have a need to save split-files using a specific naming convention? Use our brand new Preferences pane to create your own customized Schemes for how split-files are named, from the most common to the most obscure.
Wave Editor Overview
What Is Wave Editor?
Wave Editor is THE audio editor for Mac OS X. Designed in Cocoa from the ground up, Wave Editor proudly takes advantage of Core Audio, Quartz, and other solid OS X features.
Wave Editor takes over where Spark and Sound Designer II left off — incorporating the standard audio editing features you're used to while bringing you up-to-date with the latest advances in interface design, speed and stability, without compromising the power.
Layered Audio

Wave Editor introduces the concept of "Layers" to audio editing (patent pending). Layer portions of audio of any format, channel count, sample rate and bit depth, Audio Units and fades on top of each other, edit to your heart's content, then "flatten" your file to get a result that would have taken much longer the old-fashioned way!
Industry Best Sample Rate Conversion
No need to reinvent the wheel here. Rather than spend a lot of time and money developing our own sample rate conversion, time stretching and wordlength reduction technologies and passing those costs on to you, we decided to source the best DSP available — iZotope™.
Wave Editor incorporates iZotope's industry best 64-bit SRC™ and MBIT+™ dither. We also have incorporated iZotope's SonicFit™ time/pitch technology. This ensures that Wave Editor delivers the highest fidelity and the best value on the market.
Get Smart
Wave Editor introduces "SmartEdits" and the "SmartEdit List." Slice audio into sections, move them wherever you want (even between documents), assign names, colors, fades (and more) and make them work together for the most unique and flexible crossfades. If you're familiar with Sound Designer II's playlists, take the next step with the SmartEdit List.
You're Surrounded
Wave Editor was designed for the modern age. Built for broadcast and Surround applications, Wave Editor is not just a stereo editor. It is truly channel independent, truly multichannel. Some editors claim to be multichannel, but require you to "split" or "unzip" the files before you can edit them. With Wave Editor, you can edit multichannel Surround files directly without this extra step.
Great Tools
Wave Editor includes an advanced Inspector, statistical analyzer, audio processor, three advanced meters, full support for Audio Units, Bezier curve-based fades, support for MP3, AAC, FLAC, Apple Lossless, Ogg Vorbis, portable document templates and much, much more!
One Version, One Price
No need to have to compare different versions of the same product here. It's just Wave Editor, not Wave Editor Lite/Pro/Express/2007. One version, one price and all the features you expect. Some other developers DDP extensions alone cost hundreds more than Wave Editor. Compare to the competition and we think you'll see it's the best value in the industry.
Try It Free...
Wave Editor will run, without limitation, for 15 days. After that, you'll need to purchase Wave Editor for $79 to utilize the application's functionality. A Wave Editor license key can be purchased directly from our online store.
DDP 2.0 and Red Book (for the rest of us)
Open & Arrange
Start by opening tracks as individual layers. Our new advanced options in the Open dialog allow you to open multiple documents as overlapping or consecutive layers. Precisely arrange the tracks as you desire. No playlists required.
Edit & Process
If required, use the industry-best iZotope 64-bit SRC™ to convert the sample rate of your tracks. Wave Editor 1.3 now gives you total control over the iZotope 64-bit SRC advanced options. Apply your favorite mastering Audio Unit plug-ins to each Layer (for individual tracks) or the Master Layer (for the entire document). Apply fades using our beautiful and easy-to-use Bezier-curve fade overlays or use our unique SmartEdits to fade your tracks in or out.
Apply Labels & Metadata
We have gone to great lengths to make Wave Editor familiar and intuitive. Because Wave Editor is built from the ground up in Cocoa and uses standard Mac OS X interface elements, you don't have to spend a lot of time learning new buttons and controls. Adding Tracks and Indexes is as easy as dragging and dropping them from the Label Well. Applying metadata for CD-TEXT, audio CD information and DDP is just as simple. Edit track-specific data by selecting the track in the Labels drawer and entering it in the split-pane at the bottom of the drawer. Add CD-specific data in the Properties panel. Nothing out of the ordinary, yet seemingly extraordinary.
Export
Your master is complete, now what? Simply export your DDP set by choosing "Export > DDP..." from the File menu. Need a reference copy? Choose "Burn Disc..." from the File menu. Yes, it's that easy.
iZotope MBIT+™ Dither
iZotope's MBIT+™ dithering algorithm features psychoacoustic noise shaping, based on research with actual musical material, making it the best sounding dither on the market. As our perception of the end result is the most important metric of quality, iZotope has built all of their models using real music — and not test tones, hisses, hums, bleeps, and buzzes. The result is the most musical and sonically pleasing dither available.
Wave Editor makes it extremely easy to take advantage of MBIT+ dither: simply choose it from the popup menu in the Burn Disc or Export DDP dialog boxes. Need detailed control? Simply use the Processor to add your dither before you burn or export your DDP set. Power to the people...
Support Where And When You Need It
Our Vision
Audiofile Engineering began in a recording studio, not in a corporate boardroom in an office building. As musicians and engineers who have invested blood, sweat, and tears into the world of creative audio software, we are too often surprised by an ugly truth: end-user support is seriously lacking.
From day one at Audiofile Engineering we have devoted ourselves to keeping in touch with our user base. We believe that the center of our business, and even the process of creating our software, rests within each and every one of our customers – with you. And if you run into trouble, we want to be there to help.
Not Your Parents' Help Menu
Actual, honest-to-goodness, end-user tech support is built-in to every one of our apps. Look in each application's menu for Support and check it out.
Learn more by watching our tutorial Screencasts, check for an update of the software, read Release Notes and new features, manage your License keys, or communicate with a real, living, human being on our Support staff.
The Help Desk tab is where you can let us know when you believe you've found a bug, or when you have a great idea for a future feature, and even review all past communications with the Support Team. No more digging through emails, or following links in your web browser. We've put the most important bits right at your fingertips.
We're All In This Together
We work hard to provide unparalleled technical support, and strive to keep improving our development workflow and quality control to prevent issues from happening in the first place. We utilize modern and effective tools that allow us to support you in the best way possible, no matter where in the world you are.
But we can't do it alone – we need you to stay in contact.
Tell us when you need help, let us know when things aren't working the way you expect and especially when they seem unclear. Send us your most desired feature requests, and share stories about how you are using and enjoying the software we've created. This feedback will give us what we need to continue to build and refine the most useful and enjoyable applications you've ever used.
When in doubt, just email us directly at support@audiofile-engineering.com.

Only The Best For You
No need to reinvent the wheel here. Rather than spend a lot of time and money developing our own sample rate conversion and wordlength reduction technologies and passing those costs on to you, we decided to source the best DSP available — iZotope. Wave Editor incorporates iZotope's industry best 64-bit SRC™ and MBIT+™ dither. We have also incorporated iZotope's SonicFit™ time/pitch technology. This ensures that Wave Editor delivers the highest fidelity and the best value on the market.
iZotope 64-bit SRC™
The iZotope 64-bit SRC utilizes a hyrbrid algorithm providing the highest quality and most customizable resampling available on the market today. iZotope 64-bit SRC features a hybrid ringing control enabling a compromise between the standard pre-ringing of a linear phase filter and the post-ringing of a minimum phase filter. A continuous control morphs the algorithm from a linear phase filter to a minimum phase filter.
The key step of sample rate conversion is the quality of the low-pass filter design. The crucial aspects include a flat pass-band, steep transition-band, high suppression in the stop-band, and minimal ringing. The careful attention of iZotope's SRC protects against the loss of data, aliasing, noise, and unwanted ringing artifacts that plague other implementations. Key features include the world's first continuous control over pre-ringing and post-ringing, alias-free operation for minimal harmonic distortion, Control filter cutoff steepness versus ringing, 64-bit double precision internal processing for minimal noise, highly efficiency for realtime operation, variable cutoff scaling, upsampling and downsampling at arbitrary sample precision and bit depth, and unlimited sample rate support (including 44.1kHz, 96kHz, 192kHz, and higher).
iZotope MBIT+™ Dither
iZotope's MBIT+ dithering algorithm features psychoacoustic noise shaping based on research with actual musical material, making it the best sounding dither on the market.
As our perception of the end result is the most important metric of quality, iZotope has built all of their models using real music — not test tones, hisses, hums, bleeps, and buzzes. The result is the most musical and sonically pleasing dither available. Key features include control of noise shaping amount, autoblanking to disable dither during digital silence, control overall amount of dither introduced, specific models for 44.1kHz/96kHz/192kHz, psychoacoustic models based on extensive musical listening, and low-latency/processor-efficient operation designed for high performance, realtime environments.
