Wave Editor can natively open and save AIFF, WAV, Wave64, Sound Designer I and II, ACID, Apple Loops, µLaw and native Wave Editor audio files (.wedt). Wave Editor can import AIFF, WAV, Wave64 Sound Designer II and II, ReCycle (REX and RX2), MP3, Vorbis, AAC, AC-3, ADTS, CAF, voXover files and any other file format that is supported by CoreAudio or QuickTime. Imported files are converted to a new, untitled native Wave Editor document.

In Wave Editor, there are five different ways to save your document:
Save As Template... is covered extensively in the Templates chapter.
The "Save..." command is available if a file has been modified. To save a file, choose File > Save. If the file is not currently saved to disk, choose a format, bit depth and location for the file.
Native Wave Editor files are always saved as deinterleaved 32-bit floating point. No other bit depths are supported. Files with Layers or SmartEdits must be saved as native Wave Editor files. Document settings (window size, open drawers, etc.) are also saved with native Wave Editor files.
"Save As..." saves a document with a new name and/or location and opens the new document in place of the previous document. To "save as," choose File > Save As... and choose a format, bit depth and location for the file.
To save a selection in a document, choose File > Save Selection To... and choose a format, bit depth and location for the document.
Wave Editor appends analysis data to files when they are opened. To exclude this data when saving a file, select the Options tab and deselect "Appened analysis data" in the dialog. An explanation of analysis data can be found in this article from our online Knowledge Books.
When saving a file, you can add a copy of it to your iTunes Library by selecting "Add to iTunes Library" in the Save dialog.
"Save To..." saves a document with a new name or location without affecting the current document. To open the file after it is saved, select "Open after save" in the dialog.
Wave Editor can export to the following formats:
To export a file from Wave Editor, choose File > Export and choose a file format or method. The Export dialog displays available options for each specific format or method.
