SmartEdit List™

The SmartEdit List is a list of SmartEdits in a document. It is an alternative to viewing or modifying a SmartEdit graphically in the Waveform Bar. The SmartEdit List shows SmartEdit locations, fade in and out times, colors and much more.

SmartEdits are always listed in chronological order in the SmartEdit List. You can reorder SmartEdits in the SmartEdit List via drag and drop. Most column cells are editable and some are sensitive to key modifiers, just as they are in the waveform view.

Choose the active channel in the pop-up menu at the upper left of the SmartEdit List . You can view only one channel at a time in the SmartEdit List. SmartEdits that match across channels are noted in the "Channels" column (abbreviated as "Chnls"). For example, matching SmartEdits in a stereo file will show as "L/R" in the Channels column.

To automatically modify matching SmartEdits in the SmartEdit List, select "Edit all channels" at the upper left of the SmartEdit List. To modify only the SmartEdit in the selected channel, deselect "Edit all channels."

The SmartEdit List dislays a Playback Head along the left edge. This Playback Head displays next to the SmartEdit that contains the current Playback Head location. If two or more SmartEdits contain the Playback Head, the Playback Head will position itself accordingly. To change the position of the Playback Head, drag it up or down. You can also click in the area to the left of the SmartEdit List to instantly move the Playback Head to that position.

You can modify the view of the columns in the SmartEdit List at any time. Most can be resized. Columns can all be placed in any order. The size and placement of columns is saved with a Wave Editor document as well as in Templates. Templates are covered extensively in the Templates chapter.

To customize the column display in the SmartEdit List, click the pop-up menu in the top right corner of the SmartEdit List Bar. Active columns are displayed with checkmarks.

Note

Names of Linked SmartEdits appear in italicized text.

Some columns are sensitive to key modifiers. Key modifiers are identical to those used in the waveform view.

Some changes to values will affect other values simultaneously. SmartEdits can be dragged from the SmartEdit List in a source document to the SmartEdit List in a destination documents (as a copy or link). By default, the SmartEdit List creates links (as long as the source document is a native Wave Editor document). You can modify the SmartEdit List to create copies rather than Links in the SmartEdit List Options (see below). Regions in the Labels drawer can also be dragged to the SmartEdit List. They are given default SmartEdit properties.

Examples

Enter new value for a SmartEdit start or end that is anchored at the fade start or end point. This requires that "Changing start/end changes:" in the SmartEdit List options is set to "Length" (see "Options" section).

Enter a new value for a SmartEdit fade in or out length that is anchored at the "halfway" point of the fade:

Enter a new value for a SmartEdit start or end time that also changes the adjacent SmartEdit's corresponding start or end time:

Note

This requires that "Changing start/end changes:" in the SmartEdit List options is set to "Length" (see "Options" section).

Note

To apply pre or post crossfade, hold down the Command and Shift keys and then press the Return key.

Enter a new value for a SmartEdit fade in or out length that creates a pre or post crossfade with the adjacent SmartEdit:

Turn columns on or off by clicking the checkbox next to the column name.

The Behavior section offers a number of options:

Match fade types When creating fades, create fades in adjacent SmartEdits.
Follow SmartEdit selection When selecting a SmartEdit in the SmartEdit List, Autoselect the SmartEdit in the waveform view.
Make links when possible when a SmartEdit from another document is dragged to the SmartEdit List, a link will be created rather than a copy whenever possible. This is only possible when both the source and destination documents are both native Wave Editor files.
Changing start/end changes when entering a new value for the start or end time of a SmartEdit, defines whether the position or length of the SmartEdit is modified.
