Processor > Change Gain

This process changes level by the value set by the slider. Enter specific values in the text box next to the slider.

Processor > Normalize

This process changes maximum or RMS level to value set by the slider. Enter specific values in the text box next to slider.

Processor > Invert Phase

This process inverts phase.

Processor > Trim

This process removes audio from the beginning or end of an audio file below a given threshold. The slider adjusts the threshold (in dB) below which audio is removed. Enter specific values in the text box next to slider.

To remove audio from the beginning of the document, select "From beginning below...". To remove audio from the end of the document, select "From end below...". Both can be selected at the same time.

To trim audio at the nearest zero cross (to avoid clicks), select "At Nearest Zero Cross". To preview the trim area, choose Waveform > Trim. Trim areas are shaded in red.

Speed

This process changes speed and/or pitch. Wave Editor has two converters: iZotope SonicFit and Apple AUTimePitch. Select a converter by selecting it in the "Converter" pop-up menu.

Processor > Speed > Time

This process modifies the length of an audio file. The length of the "Initial range" will become the length of "Result range."

To process time:

  1. Enter a length into the "Initial range" field. Optionally, you can choose a preset in the pop-up menu to the right of the field.
  2. Enter a corresponding value into the "Result range" field.
  3. Click the "Process" button.

The "Initial range" and "Result range" fields use the chosen time units for the active document.

To retain the pitch of the audio, select "Retain pitch."

Processor > Speed > Factor

This process increases or decreases speed by the factor set by the slider. Enter specific values in the text box next to the slider. Higher values decrease speed, lower values increase speed. To retain the pitch of the audio, select "Retain pitch."

Processor > Speed > Tempo

To change tempo:

  1. Enter a tempo in "Initial tempo" field. Optionally, you can choose a preset in the pop-up menu to the right of the field.
  2. Enter a corresponding value into the "Result tempo" field.
  3. Click the "Process" button.
  4. To retain the pitch of the audio, select "Retain pitch."

Processor > Speed > Cents

This process changes pitch in cents. Use the slider to change the speed of the audio in cents (100 cents = 1 half step). Enter specific values in the text box next to the slider.

Processor > Speed > Key

This process shifts pitch by changing the given musical description in octaves and intervals.

To change key:

  1. Choose the number of octaves to shift in the "Octaves" pop-up menu. You can shift up to 4 octaves.
  2. Choose an interval in the "Interval" pop-up menu.
  3. Choose the direction of the shift by clicking "Up" or "Down".
  4. Click the "Process" button.

Pitch

Processor > Pitch > Interval

This process shifts pitch by changing the given musical description in octaves and intervals.

To change interval:

  1. Choose the number of octaves to shift in the "Octaves" pop-up menu. You can shift up to 4 octaves.
  2. Choose an interval in the "Interval" pop-up menu.

Processor > Reverse

This process reverses audio.

Processor > Remove DC Offset

Processor > Convert Sample Rate

This process converts sample rate. To convert sample rate, select a sample rate from the "Sample Rate" pop-up menu. Wave Editor provides two sample rate converters: iZotope 64-bit SRC and Apple AUConverter. The pop-up contains a list of industry-standard sample rates. Alternatively, you can enter a custom value in the text box. To make the customized value stick to the text box hit the Tab key after you enter it.

Note

We highly recommend using the industry-best iZotope 64-bit SRC as it provides the highest quality conversion.

To change the sample rate in the file header without actually converting the sample rate of the audio, deselect "Resample."

Advanced options are available for the iZotope 64-bit SRC. To edit advanced options, click the disclosure triangle labeled "Advanced options." Several presets are available in the menu. Use the sliders to modify filter steepness, cutoff scaling, and preringing. Enter specific values in the text box next to the sliders.

Processor > Dither

Warning

This process DOES NOT convert the bit-depth of the file, it ONLY applies dither. To convert the bit-range of an audio file, first apply dither, then save the file to a new location choosing the desired bit-depth in the Save dialog.

For detailed information on MBIT+, please download iZotope's comprehensive dithering guide.
