Audio Units & VST Effect Plug-Ins

You can add an unlimited number of Audio Units or VST Effects to each Layer in a Wave Editor document. If you wish to save the state of Plug-Ins in a document in a non-destructive format, you must save it as a native Wave Editor document known as 'wedt'.

Wave Editor, and in fact all of our applications, keep track of what plug-in effects and instruments are installed. With the recent addition of VST Plug-in Support, we must make sure you still are in control.

Wave Editor, upon startup, will scan and validate your plug-ins, to be sure they are all compatible versions. If you have issues with a particular plug-in that refuses to validate, you may choose to skip the validation process entirely.

To skip plug-in validation, hold down "S" as Wave Editor starts up.

To force a re-validation, hold down "V" as Wave Editor starts up.

To add an Audio Units or VST Effect Plug-In:

1. Select a Layer in the Layers Drawer.

2. Choose Layer > Add Effect > Audio Unit, or Layer > Add Effect > VST, and select the Effects Plug-in you wish to add.

Add Effect

Or you can control + click on the Layers Drawer and select Add Effect > Audio Unit or Add Effect > VST.

3. A small icon and the name of the effect appears in the Layer to which it is applied. Double-click the Audio Unit in the list to view its interface.

To remove an Audio Unit, select an Audio Unit and choose Layer > Remove Audio Unit or Control/right-click on an Audio Unit and choose "Remove" from the contextual menu.

To apply an Audio Unit's effect permanently, use the Flatten commands. To apply Audio Units to the active Layer only, choose Layer > Flatten Layer... and choose your options in Flatten Layer panel. To apply all Audio Units to their respective Layers, choose Layer > Flatten All... and choose your options in Flatten All Layers panel.
