Fades are graphically-editable, automated volume modifiers. They change the level of audio by using predictable controls. You can add a preset Fade to a Layer, modify it using its handles, then permanently apply the it by using the "Flatten" commands. Fades can be arranged in any order on a Layer and between Audio Units. For example, you can add a Fade after a delay effect, but before a reverb effect so that it can change the volume of the audio and the delay effect, but the reverb tail will not be affected. A Layer can contain an unlimited number of Fades. In order to save the state of Fades without permanently affecting the audio, you must save files as native Wave Editor documents.
There are three types of Fades available in Wave Editor:
|
Segmented FadeA Segmented Fade allows you to add as many handles as you like to the Fade. To add a handle, press the Option key and click inside the Fade. To remove a handle, Press the Option and Shift keys and click on the handle. |
|
Logarithmic FadeA Logarithmic Fade utilizes a single handle that the user manipulates along a diagonal axis. |
|
Quadratic FadeA Quadratic Fade utilizes a single handle and uses a quadratic Bezier curve. Use this type of fade for simple, smooth volume changes. |
|
Cubic FadeTo move the start and end points of a fade, drag the rectangular handles on the left and right edges of the fade to the left or right. To adjust the start and end levels of the fade, drag the rectangular handles up or down. When a document has multiple fades, they can snap together to create a smooth, multi-object fade. A cubic Fade utilizes two handles, and uses a cubic Bezier curve. You can make complex, yet smooth volume changes with this Fade. |
1. Make a selection in the document.
2. Choose Layer > Add Fade and choose a Fade preset:
Or, control + click on the selection and select Add Fade and then the Fade preset:
The Fade appears over the waveform. If the Layers Drawer is not open, it will open automatically:
You can also copy and paste fades between Layers or documents. To Cut, Copy, or Paste a Fade, Control/right click on a Fade in the waveform view or in the Layers Drawer, then choose a command from the contextual menu. When a Fade is selected in the Layers Drawer, standard edit commands are also available via the Edit menu.
To remove a Fade, select it in the Layers Drawer and choose Layer > Remove Fade. You can also Control/right-click on the fade in the waveform view and choose "Remove Fade" from the contextual menu.
To apply a Fade permanently, use the "Flatten" commands. To apply the fade to the active Layer only, Choose Layer > Flatten Layer... and select options in the "Flatten Layer" panel. To apply all Fades to their respective Layers, choose Layer > Flatten All... and select options in "Flatten All Layers" panel.
