Hi folks,
I'm not a Spectre customer (yet?), simply because it doesn't offer the scales we are using here in France, aka IEC 268-10 Type I - DIN 45406 (peak), Leq(A), and the forthcoming Leq(RL
(loudness measure used for Dial Norm for Dolby E encoding).
Do you plan to integrate these scales in a future release?
Another one, is Spectre multichannel capable (say 5.1)?
Bye.

Wave Editor - Sample Manager - TwistedWave also...

If I read the spec correctly, IEC 268-10 Type I is the same as Nordic N9, which is technically 0dBFS = +9. This is offered in Spectre's Level Meter as the DIN PPM scale. They are the same thing - if I recall correctly. Let me know if I'm wrong.
The Leq meters will be forthcoming for sure - they require a bit of pre-filtering before getting measured, and we're trying to find the most accurate digital filter representation of the spec. We're planning on them being in the next major release (1.3)
As for multichannel capability - Spectre was build "channel agnostically" - you can have as many meters with as many channels, separate or combined in different ways, as you like. It's as flexible as they come in terms of channels.

Thanks for the fast answer
.
You're right, DIN PPM seems to be the right scale for us French users (i just didn't see it in the prefs, only in the "meter" settings).
Concerning Leq A and RLB, this would be great, and even greater if there will be a way to use Spectre accross Pro Tools. Unfortunately, ATM it seems impossible (no RTAS solution to send streams to another app). Maybe with Rewire? Or through a RTAS plugin you could develop?
A lot of Pro Tools users will be interested (have a look on the DUC or on our site SoundDesigners.Org) as Leq RLB will soon become the norm for postproduction in multichannel.
A last one, if you implement Leq RLB, will there be a chance to implement "Dialog Intelligence" (aka Speech detection), which is licensed by Dolby? I don't even know if Dolby will give it, though (probably not, their LM100 is just too lucrative...).
Bye.

We are working on an RTAS plug-in for Spectre as we speak. You're right, it's the only way to hook into ProTools, and we decided that it'd be best to write it ourselves to make sure it works right. No expected date of release on it, though, but I'd expect it to be alongside 1.3...
What some users do is to use Spectre on a separate computer (we use a Mac Mini at our studio), and use either digital or analog outputs between the hardware (we use AUNetSend, but that won't work in ProTools - the dedicated audio line will *always* work, however). This way we can *always* have a screen dedicated to metering, regardless of the project that's running.
We'll look into the stuff from Dolby and see what's up... thanks for the heads up on it!

Hello, just wondering what, if any movement there has been towards implementing LeqA? It's been almost a year since this post started. Thanks!

It's coming. We've decided to release a version 1.5 of Spectre before we release 2.0. These new features will appear in 2.0. We're shooting for the end of '09 for version 2.0. Be patient, it's coming!

End of 2009?
Sorry, but 2 years for just adding 2 scales ( LeqA and LeqRLB/R2LB ) is way too long for me... I'll pass...
Bye.

Sorry you feel that way. We've adjusted our roadmaps a bit and the next feature update for Spectre (2.0) was moved to 4th quarter of 2009. Spectre 1.5 will be a major reorganization of the interface, but no new features. Spectre 2.0 will sport new scales, meters, etc. Those are things we need to save for a paid upgrade. We do indeed need to generate revenue to keep this enterprise going!

Maybe your roadmap is not so great?
Just adding one or two scales is really not a big deal (a developper i know just implement Leq A and RLB/R2LB in less than a day), and i just can't understand why you don't throw it in a minor release...

Hello, just checking to see if there's any movement toward Spectre 2.0 and Leq implementation. Your last post said 4th q 2009 which is now. Thanks, John.

Hello. I see Max asked about the oft mentioned 2.0 update back on February 23rd, two months after I asked. Your last post said 4th quarter 09; I know things can get pushed back but we could use some info about an update to this tool we purchased. If you aren't going to do the upgrade to LeqA then please let me know and I'll stop asking. John.

Hi, me again. Any chance that you'll give even a modicum of feedback to the clients who purchased this software? Sorry, don't mean to come across poorly but it has been over a year since you posted anything about this. John.

There is a method to the madness of why it took so long, but I cannot explain why at the moment. More details soon enough!

Thanks, he gave me a beta license. Doesn't answer my question though, will I need a new license for this version? The license I had on my computer from the previous version appears to have been wiped out by the beta version and the program tells me "the entered license does not belong to the selected product". While I have another seat of my original license available I don't want to use it and find out that I no longer have it for a future workstation. John.

Hello John,
You need to use the beta license key I set you up with to license the beta version. Anyways, you should be able to just use your release license key now as Spectre 1.5.2 is released!
