A lost audiophile

Good afternoon Guys

Yes, I realise the word "audiophile" condemns me as one with more money than sense but... Help! In my home hi-fi system use a music server by Meridian which upsamples and apodises 16/44 flac files on the fly. However, the process would appear to be less than transparent as I actually prefer the native rate files albeit with the incurred consequences of jitter though the SPDIF connection downstream.

It may therefore be preferable to upsample my audio flac files in advance and store them on the servers hard drive in 24/88 format.

Having read through many of the postings on ComputerAudiophile.com your Wave Editor software is highly recommended and noted as one of the best with the Izotope algorithms noted as an industry standard.

I have no experience of this area of audio and many of the terms have no meaning as yet. I would very much appreciate some guidance in layterms (idiots guide)and, with your blessing, publish the response and my findings on the Meridian forums.

My albums are stored as a folder containing the tracks stored as flac files within it.

I would like to convert all to 24bit and 88kHz sample rate and export again in flac but haven't a clue where to start, in particular in terms of settings / filters / dithering etc etc.

I understand that the Meridian upsampling uses a steep filter which, according to many, may not be the preferred option acoustically.

All assistance very much appreciated

Cheers, Steve

Sounds like Sample Manager might be more what you need, since it can do batch processing of multiple files, and Wave Editor can't.

Ahh - OK, I have purchased the Sample Manager - BUT apparently it can't handle FLAC files!!!! Guess that's yet another $80 wasted... It's not going well so far is it?

This program is free and can convert from FLAC to wav for you first:

Thanks - but this is getting complicated, I already have all the meta data attached etc. I want a one step batch process, not a complete lifetimes work sad smiley

Ah, ok I see what you mean. I can't think of any program that will retain meta-data while upsampling and reconverting to FLAC. Sorry sad smiley

Might be worth asking over on Bruce Brown's forums:

That's why you can download the demo versions before you commit to buying.
