Dither Question for WE Experts

When I do "processing" to dither from 24 to 16 bit, does my (now) 16 bit file save when I do "save as 16 bit aif"?
Or, does it simply truncate the top 8 bits when saving in this manner?
I ask because, in the manual, it says dither is only applied when burning a cd or saving as a DDP file.
thank you all for responding.

When you apply the dither via the processing dialogue, the dither is added to the file so it will be where it needs to be when you save as 16bit. So yes the "Save As" option is truncating the lower 8 bits, but that's fine because the dither has already been applied to be right where it needs to be after this operation. Make sense?
