Shortcuts gripes....

I've noticed how some shrtcuts wont work unless you are in the 'right' window/selection, i.e. 'Playback' spacebar
wont work if i'm editing a plugin, i have to switch to the waveform window; 'Edit Effect' wont open the plugin if i didn't selected the plug under the 'Layers' drawer.

Here's an example of how i have it setup and my workflow: "Playback" is d\set to 'spacebar' and "Edit Effect" is set to 'E'. I'm in Waveform window and clicked on spacebar-> the audio starts playing. At this point i'd like to open the plugin for editing but unless i've selected the plug from the layers drawer it wont open so, i have to do it manually. Once is opened i start changing parameters and if i click on spacebar it opens the 'Presets' menu of the plugin, it doesn't start/stop the audio. So, i click on 'E' which is the shortcut to "Edit Effect" but it doesn't close the plugin- now i have to use the mouse again....

What do you guys think, can it be changed or is there a reason for being setup this way?

I've asked for this before too, the whole spacebar thing when you're adjusting plug ins is... annoying at best. smiling smiley Audiofile said it's not possible for technical reasons though. Personally I'd rather lose the presets menu on the plug in window if this is the case, put it in the app file header bar or something.

Check System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts > Full Keyboard Access.

Make sure "Text boxes and lists only" is selected. Sounds like you've got "All controls" on.

@ev

I've checked that and i did have "All controls" on but after changing it to
"Text boxes and lists only" nothing has changed in WE.....

I'm on the last version of WE running OSX 10.4.11.

I assume you relaunched WE?

I'm really surprised that the popup menu would react to a space bar press then, that's not what it's supposed to do... that's not what I'm seeing here. Something is configured in your system so that controls react to keypresses - anything set up in System Preferences > Universal Access?

I've checked "Universal Access" [for the first time ever...] and nothing seems unusual. And to the confirm, i did restart WE.
