Virtual Rack
Attention Rax users! Please read our Rax FAQ for important information regarding retrieving your new License Key and other information regarding our acquistion of Rax.
What Is Rax?
Rax is streamlined, intuitive virtual rack software for Mac OS X. It enables performing musicians to easily organize and control their virtual rack of Audio Units.
Rax Is Back!
We acquired Rax from plasq in September of 2007. As one of the few, pure Cocoa audio applications developed at the time, Rax was a major inspiration for us in creating Audiofile Engineering. We're absolutely thrilled to now have it as part of our catalogue. (Stay tuned for future announcements about Rax 3.)
Keeping It Organized...
An intuitive and familiar interface now allows you to organize your racks into songs, and your songs into sets. Version 2.0 of Rax adds a new model for building and organizing setlists, with Remote control via MIDI and the Apple Remote further streamlining this workflow.
This setlist feature, in combination with OnStage, allows the performer to easily step through songs remotely, at a glance. Enter the new OnStage window and you can step through the set in a performance with no squinting, and no other visual distractions from other apps.
Universally Cool...
Rax is now a Universal Binary and is designed to take advantage of the computational power in the new Core Duo based laptops. With two cores working independently on visuals and audio, you could say MacBooks were made with Rax in mind.
Going OnStage
See the Difference
The new hi-contrast user interface makes it easier to see and control Rax from afar, whether thats while leaning over a MIDI keyboard or guitar. Each knob now features a pop-up 'value bezel' which makes it easy to see the precise values of each parameter.
OnStage makes the important stuff big, and hides the rest. View and move through your setlist, preview your selected visualizer, keep an eye on MIDI and audio in+out, CPU and audio levels. You can move from rack to rack as you move song to song, via your MIDI keyboard or even an Apple Remote!A reliable Panic mode also lets you quickly jump out and tweak, and jump back into the OnStage View. (Want OnStage like features for Logic? Check out OnStage from Fluqe.)
Visualize This...
The stunning visualizers in Rax are powered by Quartz, the powerful graphics technology family that forms the foundation of the 2D imaging model for Mac OS X. You can even roll your own using Apple's Quartz Composer application, freely available by downloading
Xcode.
New Look
Audio Units
Rax fully supports Audio Units, Apple's powerful audio plug-in technology. Your favorite virtual instruments and effects plug-ins by Native Instruments, Universal Audio, iZotope, NuSofting, Audio Damage, Nomad Factory, Wave Arts and others are welcome here. You can even use Apple's fantastic built-in Audio Units. If you do, you'll find that they don't look like the same old built-in Audio Units you're used to...
Support Where And When You Need It
Our Vision
Audiofile Engineering began in a recording studio, not in a corporate boardroom in an office building. As musicians and engineers who have invested blood, sweat, and tears into the world of creative audio software, we are too often surprised by an ugly truth: end-user support is seriously lacking.
From day one at Audiofile Engineering we have devoted ourselves to keeping in touch with our user base. We believe that the center of our business, and even the process of creating our software, rests within each and every one of our customers – with you. And if you run into trouble, we want to be there to help.
Not Your Parents' Help Menu
Actual, honest-to-goodness, end-user tech support is built-in to every one of our apps. Look in each application's menu for Support and check it out.
Learn more by watching our tutorial Screencasts, check for an update of the software, read Release Notes and new features, manage your License keys, or communicate with a real, living, human being on our Support staff.
The Help Desk tab is where you can let us know when you believe you've found a bug, or when you have a great idea for a future feature, and even review all past communications with the Support Team. No more digging through emails, or following links in your web browser. We've put the most important bits right at your fingertips.
We're All In This Together
We work hard to provide unparalleled technical support, and strive to keep improving our development workflow and quality control to prevent issues from happening in the first place. We utilize modern and effective tools that allow us to support you in the best way possible, no matter where in the world you are.
But we can't do it alone – we need you to stay in contact.
Tell us when you need help, let us know when things aren't working the way you expect and especially when they seem unclear. Send us your most desired feature requests, and share stories about how you are using and enjoying the software we've created. This feedback will give us what we need to continue to build and refine the most useful and enjoyable applications you've ever used.
When in doubt, just email us directly at support@audiofile-engineering.com.
Made for Mac OS X
100% Pure Cocoa
Audiofile Engineering creates unique and high-quality audio software exclusively for Mac OS X. All of our applications are written in 100% pure Cocoa and make extensive use of core technologies in Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard. Because our software is written from the ground up in Cocoa, we are able to add features and fix issues significantly faster than other developers who are supporting legacy Carbon-based applications. As Mac OS X grows, so will our applications.
Core Audio
All of our applications make extensive use of
Core Audio, Apple's powerful audio API, for a high-quality, superior audio experience.
Audio Units
Wave Editor, Sample Manager & Rax fully support and make extensive use of built-in
Audio Units. Your favorite plugs by Universal Audio, iZotope, Audio Damage and others are welcome here.
Universal Binaries
Apple announced the transition to Intel processors in July of 2005. Our applications were
Universal Binaries in July of 2005. Coincidence? We think not.
Leopard-ready
All of our applications support
Mac OS X Leopard, the most impressive and powerful version of Mac OS X yet. Apple has done it again and we plan on putting many of the new features in Leopard to good use in the very near future.
AppleScript & Automator
We work well with others. Sample Manager is the only audio batch processor for Mac OS X to fully support
AppleScript & Automator. Wave Editor 2.0 will also add extensive AppleScript and Automator support.
Multicore
A perfect illustration of the power of pure Cocoa — advanced
Multicore support in Leopard. Brace yourself for even better performance on your multicore Intel Macs.
iDisk
One of Sample Manager's numerous actions uploads files automatically to your
iDisk. In the very near future, all of our applications will allow you to back up Keyboard Shortcuts and other important settings to your iDisk.
Spotlight
Whether its Sample Manager's powerful SmartGroups or standard Open dialogs, we support
Spotlight to help you find exactly what you're looking for.
OpenGL
Optimized for the Macintosh platform, Apple's
OpenGL implementation powers many of Spectre's beautiful meters.
Bonjour
Spectre is the first audio application for Mac OS X to make extensive use of AUNetSend/Receive. voXover's unique teleprompter is published to networked voXover clients via
Bonjour. No network configuration necessary.
